Your Mechanic Can Be a Valuable Asset When Purchasing A Used Car

Car dealers are not particularly well liked, and knowing as many of them as I do, I can understand why that might be the case. I run an import shop in Florida that specializes in late model luxury imports. I’ve been in business for quite some time, and I have heard plenty of horror stories from customers regarding other dealerships. In my opinion, I think the majority of car dealerships one will encounter are reputable, by and large. I say “by and large” because some dealers I know use nickel and dime methods to maximize their profits, which I disagree with. Personally, I would rather give the customer a quality auto at a fair price and consequently gain a lifetime customer, but that’s a topic for another article.

One of the more recent horror stories I heard involved someone who had purchased a vehicle that was leaking oil. For those of you that know anything about cars, you know that this is nothing to be taken lightly. The customer was assured by the dealership that this older, yet low mileage used car was in pristine condition. Here’s where it gets interesting… Before the sale, the customer asked if she could have the car inspected by her mechanic. The dealership did everything they possibly could to keep that from happening, and succeeded. They told her that they would have their own mechanics do a “twenty point inspection” which would save her the time and expense of having her mechanic take a look. Unbelievable! Since the customer parked her car on a busy street where there were already several oil spots, she never noticed the leaking until after her ridiculously short thirty day warranty was up.

Her mechanic would have spotted an oil leak the minute he had the car up on the rack. As disheartening as this story is, there is a valuable lesson to be learned here. Car buyers, unless they are dealing with a dealer they are familiar with and whom they trust, should seriously consider having a mechanic check out any used car they are interested in (preferrably the local certified manufacturer dealer of the automobile make they are considering). I have had several first time customers ask me if they can have the car independently inspected and I am always happy to oblige. Take my word for it, the only dealers who would frown upon independent inspections are those who have something to hide.

Buying a car is a huge investment, whether you are buying a new or used car. By looking at used cars, you will see that this can save you a lot of money while you still get a great car. But before buying a used car, you should do a little bit of research to make sure that you are truly getting your moneys worth. Otherwise, you could just end up stuck with someone elses problem.

Before you start doing any research, make sure that you know what you want out of your used car. This includes knowing how many miles you are willing to have on it, what type of vehicle you are looking to buy, and the features that you will want on your used car. After you have determined these factors, its a good idea to look on used car websites. This can not only provide you with what a good price is for the car you are looking for but can also be a great place to purchase your car once you have decided on one you like. While you are looking online, beware of a price that seems too good to be true. It probably is and a low sales price could mean that the car is not in good condition and will end up costing you much more money later on.

Once you have decided on a few used cars that you are interested in, get their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN.) You can get this from the previous owner, the website youve found the car on, or it is usually located on the drivers side of the vehicle where the dash meets the windscreen. After you have the VIN, you can get a report on the vehicle for about twenty pounds. The VIN will tell you everything that has happened to the used car in the past, whether it has been in an accident or has had costly repairs done to it. Many sites, such as BuyYourCar provide an AutoCheck facility. You just enter the registration number of the car for sale and it will tell you its history.

When buying a second-hand car online, make sure you go through a reputable company. Knowing who you are dealing with will give you some insight as to what to expect from that company and how to go about finding a used car through them. Any online company or website should be thoroughly researched before any purchase is made. There are many wonderful companies and websites that offer used cars online; however, there is always someone that is just trying to make a quick buck as well. Doing some research wherever you buy your car from will give you the best protection when buying a second-hand car.

Doing occasional tune ups and taking car of your car is nothing new. You will always need to maintain your car even if its old or brand new, with oil changes and checking the engine. So it would be better for you financially to choose good quality second hand parts.

Getting used car parts is like looking around for a second hand car. You should look for the parts in the same places you would normally to get a second hand car. You can look for the parts in the classified ads, check different shops that would sell the parts or the easier way would be to go and surf on the internet. It would save you time and effort.

There was time when these parts could only be found at the dealerships and mechanic stores. Now searching for used parts isnt thats hard as long as you remember a few things. You should know exactly what you need, what part goes with your car etc.Once you know what part you need you can figure out how much you are willing to pay for the part. Some parts don’t have to be the original. There are parts that can be bought at surplus or a compatible part from another car make and model enabling can be used making a person save money for other things.

Once you get all the information you need you can check out either local shops or dealers. You can also go check out junk yards, because a lot of parts there can be used again. Or searching the internet where you could also order the parts and it would be delivered.

So dont make excuses about fixing something on your car, the faster you do it the better the outcome. Dont wait till its too late.

Used Car Loan Value And How It Can Impact Your Bottom Line

New cars are an expensive investment. Come to think of it, all cars are an expensive investment. But new cars are even more expensive compared to used cars. And with todays present economy, lots of nervous folks have come to see the better sense in buying used cars as opposed to buying a new one.

A new set of wheels could cost you around $21,000 plus. Already, this is a big financial commitment even in the best of times. But what about when times are tight? Can you still afford to spend that much on a car? And is it worth it?

It takes 19.9 weeks of median family income before taxes to buy a new car. The Auto Affordability Index compiled by Detroit-based Comerica Bank stated this in their report during the third quarter of 2003. If you calculate it right, 19.9 is roughly five months worth of salary spent on a car alone. Is this a wise way of spending our hard-earned money? A lot of people disagree. Its simply foolhardy to spend $21,000 on a car when the economy is slowing and the headlines are filled with job layoffs.

Fortunately, many car buyers like yourself are afforded many loan value options which you can take. Loan value for used cars in the market is flourishing in these hard times strangely enough. In fact, millions of cars come off lease each year and that leaves you with tons of 2 to 4-year-old vehicles to choose from. Not really a bad scene when you think about it. With all these options, you can certainly take your sweet time when considering getting loan value for a used car.

Lenders pay attention to Used Car Loan Value

When financing a used car, most lenders youll find will only offer finance for its loan value, instead of the vehicle itself. Cars are important investments as many of you may have realized already. So never mind if its a used car or a new car, cars are assets which you can make use of when money is tight.

The loan value of a used car is generally lower than the purchase price of the car. But if you know what the loan value of your used car is, you can compare that to the purchase price. The result of your comparison should give you a rough estimate of the amount of money you would have to put down for your car. As previously stated, lenders pay more attention to the loan value of your used car than on the vehicle itself.

Used Car Loan Value: Knowing what your loan value is saves you time and trouble

Knowing what the loan value of your used car is gives you an estimate of what you need to come up with when you apply for car loans. Lets say your dealer sells you a used car for $5,000. The loan value for that car should be around $4,000. That leaves you with $1000 if you compare the purchase price with the loan value. This should be the amount you would have to play with when negotiating for down payments. By knowing this, you save yourself from the trouble of applying for auto loans for a car that is well above your means or not within your price range. Aside from that, the loan value of your used car can also keep you from getting short-changed on a car that is less than what you can really afford.

A person who cannot afford to buy a new car can always move ahead and buy a used car. Buying a car no doubts requires a lot of money but that does not mean that only rich can buy it. Always remember the success of buying a used car is to do your research before you buy it. You will have to prepare yourself for all the stress if you are looking for a perfect deal. Make sure that you are with the best used car dealer who will ensure you the best deal. You need to go through the following information before buying a used car.

1) Always decide the budget you can afford to buy the car. Since you are buying the used car always include price of the Car, repairs and maintenance cost of the car, Car insurance and so on.

2) Decide the Car you would like to buy. The best option would be to go for a mid-sized car as these cars are available at great bargains.

3) Used cars may be covered by a manufacturer’s warranty or a separately purchased service contract. However note that they may not be transferable. Always make sure to go through the warranty or service contract before you buy any used cars.

4) You can also take a test drive of the car and check its efficiency and comfort. It would be more preferable if you take a test drive on different types of roads. Have a drive for at least 10 to 15 miles to ensure the smoothness of the car.

5) Find out how old is the car you are going to buy. Try to buy a car which is two or three years older. Buying a two or three years older car would probably be a great deal as this will give you an opportunity to drive the latest model. It would be asking for trouble if you decide to go for a much older car.

6) If you are not 100% satisfied by the car avoid buying it. Don’t just buy a car since it is cheap as this might turn into a big expense in the long term.

7) It would be advisable to get the car inspected by the mechanic you hire. If you neglect it, you will have to pay everything for the maintenance once you buy the car. A mechanic can put the car on the lift and can immediately identify any previous damages, corrosions and so on.
If you are buying a 4 to 5 year old car it would be advisable to get the warranty period extended. Else you will have to bear the brunt of heavy losses.

9) Every dealer has a price in mind below which they will not sell you the car. The dealer is ready to reduce the price of the car till this price point and yet manages a decent profit. However if they find a particular buyer inexperienced they take advantage of such buyers and gladly make a very good profit. Hence it is very important to educate yourself thoroughly before going to a car dealer.

Things To Keep In Mind When Shopping for a Used Car

Obtaining a used car can be a bit of an exercise in navigation if you’re unaware of how things go about. There are several factors to consider when purchasing a used car, such as damage left over from a car accident and the potential for stress if you can’t make your payments. You may even end up having to consider whether or not you’re likely to get cramps or muscle spasms because the interior is too damn small for your body build. For some people, the stress relief factor of having a car might end up being overruled by the stress of being in the car for extended periods. As such, there are usually a number of things that one has to keep in mind when purchasing a used car.

First and foremost, a prospective buyer ought to know his or her capacity to pay for the car. This does not only mean covering the down payment, but also includes whatever payments you have to make on a monthly basis. Long-term considerations of the costs of purchasing and maintaining a car used or brand new can save you a lot of stress and anxiety later on. Consider the stability of your financial state and whether or not you can afford the car in the foreseeable future based on your current financial condition. Spare yourself the stress and try not to hope that your condition will improve when you purchase a car that’s just out of your current price range. After all, you’re not paying for the car in the future. You’re paying for it in the here and now.

If you think you can handle the purchase or you’ve got a good enough credit rating, then your next worry should be what type of car you want. Be sure to consider things like muscle cramps and chronic pain when checking the interior. It simply will not do if you’ve got a fancy Ferrari in your garage but you feel crippling lower back pain each time you take it out for a spin. Also, be sure to consider whether the car is suited for your needs and the needs of the people who will be using it with you. If you’re a family man, a car with a lot of room can save you stress and headaches from kids complaining that there’s not enough room. Smaller, flashier cars with a lot of speed would probably be better for bachelors trying to impress that potential Ms. Right. People just trying to get from Point A to Point B would be better off getting a reliable but unremarkable model.

The third thing on your mind ought to be where you’re buying the car, and whether the seller can be trusted. We’ve all heard the stories about unscrupulous, double-dealing used car dealers. Some people have even gone so far as to claim they’ve developed anxiety and phobias around used car dealers because of those stories. True or not, it pays dividends to take precautions when purchasing a used auto. Examine whatever reputation or records you can get about the dealership you’re getting the car from and make sure you’re confident and not feeling any anxiety towards making the purchase. Provided the dealership has a good record and they’ve got a reasonable price for the model you’re looking for, you probably shouldn’t feel too much anxiety prior to inspecting the car.

It is critical that you examine the car in person before you pay for it, or even agree to anything. Check for anything that might indicate poor maintenance, mishandling, or even repairs done after a car accident. Most aspects of a car can be repaired after a car accident, but even if you replace some parts, the performance might never be the same. It doesn’t help that poor maintenance can mean a higher chance of you getting into a car accident because the last owner didn’t know the difference between an axle and a gasket. Save yourself the possibility of exorbitant medical bills and anxiety by giving the car a good once-over, making sure to inspect everything you can without having to tear it apart.

In the end, getting a used car can be a bit of a daunting prospect if you’re unprepared. So you’d best do a little research before you go dipping your hand into the cookie jar. Keep the above bits of advice in mind because very talented used car salesmen can find ways to circumvent a person’s common sense and dupe you into buying a flashy piece of junk.

Whenever a person buys or leases a car, he seeks ways to finance this move. Most auto financing involves a car loan, which entails a detailed check on his credit history and a tough interview about car finance. When he undergoes all these to buy a used car, it is only fair that he also performs his own investigations about the car he is going to buy. In fact, he should never consider buying a used car, which history has not been checked. If he does, he may just end up paying for a piece of junk.

A used car must be checked for its title, registration, odometer, and the problems that it had weathered before it reached your eyes. A title check will determine if the car is salvaged, flooded or rebuilt. For example, many cars were destroyed during the 9 -11 World Trade tragedy. Many cars, too, were damaged during the hurricanes and floods. These cars were salvaged by enterprising people. The cars will be rebuilt and sold again at car auctions. A title check will also discover if the used car has lemon history.

A registration check will determine if the used car has been used as a fleet car, or as a taxi, or even as a police car. If the used car has been utilized in any of these, then it is safe to say that within a given period of time, this particular used car has covered more miles than the average privately used car. A registration check will also reveal if the used car was ever rented or leased.

The cars odometer is an instrument used to measure the distance traveled by a vehicle. An odometer check will show if the odometer has been broken or fraud. It will also show if it has been rolled back or rolled over. If the odometer has been tampered, this does not bode well for the next owner of the used car. The car may be older than what the dealer is telling you. Or it may have mileage problems.

A problem check will determine if the used car has sustained fire damage or an explosion. It will also show if it has been involved in a major accident. The fire or accident may have inflicted a still undetected damage on the used car. It is also quite creepy to use a car that has cradled dead bodies before. A problem check will reveal if the car has been stolen. A car that has been stolen may no longer have all its original parts.

A used car may give you more problems than you can manage. But not all used cars are damaged, leased or stolen. This is why there are still many people who take out car loans to buy a used car. To be safe, the potential buyer must order a vehicle history report.
